RESEARCH & TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

The Research & Technical (R & T) Department which is under the Technical and Education Directorate is the think tank of the Institute saddled with the responsibility to deepen ICAN’s relationship with the industry, academia, government, regional and global accounting bodies. As the think tank of the Institute, the Research & Technical Department is responsible for the coordination and conduct of research into Accounting, Economics, and other related fields with a view to identifying emerging trends in these areas and facilitate the Institute’s contribution to expansion of frontiers of knowledge in the profession as well as provide advice to government.

Professorial Inaugural Lecture Grant

The Institute, through the Department, provides financial assistance to its members in academia during the presentation of their inaugural Professorial lecture.
Requirements for the Grant

• Official Invitation Letter and Card
• Attestation letter from the Vice Chancellor of the University confirming that Inaugural lecturer is a Professor of Accounting
• Letter of Response to the Inaugural Lecturer on the Institute’s conditions for the award of the lecture support
• Proof of subscription payment i.e. must be a financial member
• Minimum of 36 months post induction experience
• 120 MCDP credits

PhD Research Grant

The Institute through the Research and Technical Department awards grants to assist qualified Members who are currently pursuing doctoral degree programme in accounting in Nigerian Universities.

Requirements for the Grant

The following are the documents required to process your application:

• Official Application Letter (Application for Ph.D. Grant)
• Admission Letter.
• Evidence of approved thesis/dissertation topic.
• Proposal (Chapter 1-3 not more than 20 pages).
• HOD's Attestation (Attesting to your admission status - using the Department's letterhead).
• HOD's/Supervisor's Contact (email & phone number).
• Profile (Applicant's Curriculum Vitae).
• 120 MCDP credits

Academic Conference on Accounting & Finance (ACAF)

The Institute through the department organises academic conference annually. The conference provides invaluable opportunities for the development of innovative and thought-provoking research in accounting, finance and other related fields.

Commissioned Research

Annually, the Institute through the Department initiates and sponsors research into contemporary issues of relevance to the profession and the Nigerian economy at large.

ICAN on AIR

The Institute, through the Department, presents a fortnightly online informative programme where current issues relating to the accounting profession, economy, activities of the Institute and other current topics are discussed and displayed. Resource persons are engaged through the various social media platforms to enlighten members and the public on selected topics.
