Procedure for Application for Recognition

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria was established by the Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1965 and given the mandate to determine the standard of knowledge and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the Accountancy Profession in Nigeria and raising the standards from time to time, as circumstances demand. Sequel to the foregoing, the Institute organised the recognition/re-recognition exercise for the purpose of assessing the facilities and standard of tuition delivery at all recognised tuition centres and the new ones.

List of Recognised Tuition Centres

The objectives of the exercise are to:

  • Intimate the centre about the new developments with respect to the changes in the new ICAN syllabus and what is expected from the tuition centre as regards quality delivery
  • Obtain firsthand information as regards the training programmes, evaluate and review the performances of students who received tuitions from the tuition centre so as to ascertain whether they substantially conform to the Institute’s standard
  • Explore areas of co-operation between the Institute and the tuition center to further enhance candidate’s performance at the Institute’s Professional Examinations
  • Intimate the Tuition Houses of Support fund available for them to upgrade their library facilities.

The following are the procedure for application for recognition.

  • Ensure you have certificate of incorporation from CAC.
  • Ensure you have commenced the tuition and have presented students for the Institute’s examination for at least two (2) diets.
  • You must have at least six (6) chartered accountants as lecturers.
  • Having satisfied the above, you can send request for recognition to: studentsaffairs@ican.org.ng and attach evidence of payment of N25,000.00 for administrative purpose.
  • The officer in charge will liaise with tuition house and arrange a date with you and send you a letter thereof.
