The Council Affairs & General Services (CA/GS) Directorate is responsible for overseeing affairs of the Governing Council, the Office of Registrar/Chief Executive (R/CE) and the Presidency of the Institute.
The Governing Council: The Governing Council is charged with the administration and general management of the Institute. It gives policy direction through its oversight functions and holds its meetings, which are largely paperless, at least once a month.
The Presidency: The Presidency of the Institute is comprised of (i) The President; (ii) the Vice President (VP); (iii) the first Deputy Vice President (1st DVP); (iv) the second Vice President (2nd DVP); and (v) the Immediate Past President (IPP).
Registrar/Chief Executive: The Registrar/Chief Executive (R/CE) is the Secretary of the Governing Council and head of the secretariat.
Council meetings: The Council Affairs Department is directly responsible for sending the notice of Council meetings, writing and circulation of minutes as well as production of decision extracts for the use of committee chairmen, secretaries and relevant departments.
Registry: The Directorate receives mails, sorts, records and treats them on behalf of R/CE.
International Desk: The Directorate also houses the International Help Desk which handles the Institute’s interface with international affiliates.
Investiture: Organization/coordination of the investiture of the ICAN President is the responsibility of the Directorate.
AGM: The R/CE is the secretary of the AGM; he is assisted by Assistant Director, Council Affairs & General Services (ADCA/GS), Manager (CA/GS) and the secretaries of the Directorate
Administration: Issues regarding maintenance of the secretariat in Victoria Island are referred to the ADCA/GS, who liaises with Director, HR and Administration (DHR&A).
Projects: AD, CA/GS is secretary to the Projects Committee which is responsible for the capital projects of the Institute; he is assisted by Deputy Manager (DM), CA/GS
Students’ Special Project: ADCA/GS is also the Secretary of the SSPC and co ordinates the SSP centres in the different states of the Federation; he is assisted by Senior Manager (SM) CA/GS
Activities/Events handled by the Directorate: These include Council Meetings held every last Thursday of the month; AGM held last Friday in May; Investiture ceremony held in the first week of June; and Council Retreat held twice a year.
